So 3D Mark uses an "automatic game" style benchmark, Analyses what is going on in the background and provides details at the end of how the computer performed.

These results can then be compared before and after a hardware upgrade, With friends computers to show off or just to see if you've got your moneys worth from that new PC. It is also an excellent stability test after a new overclock.
