Media Player Classic is a light media player based on the looks and simplistic functionality once provided by Windows Media Player 6.4. Unlike the media player upon which it is based, the new media player classic supports video and audio file types that didn't even exist when Windows Media Player 6.4 was in common use.

Media Player Classic runs on Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000. Supported are all the mode media files you'd expect a mode media player software to play, including the cutting edge Matroska (.mkv) video wrapper which is often used to encode 1080p hi-def video and Ogg-Vorbis, a mode alternative to the proprietary MP3 format.
